How Often Should I Sanitize My Bottled Water Cooler?
The IBWA recommends sanitizing bottled water coolers at least every 60-90 days to prevent bacteria buildup. The sanitation process involves the following steps:
- Unplugging the power cord.
- Draining and discarding water from the cooler.
- Removing the cooler top and the no-spill device.
- Draining water from the cold water chamber and melting any ice rings.
- Preparing the cleaning solution by mixing one teaspoon of liquid bleach per gallon of water.
- Thoroughly cleaning all surfaces of the cooler with a cleaning solution and towel.
- Rinsing the reservoir through the cold faucet.

- Rinsing and reinstalling all cooler parts.

- Plugging the cooler back into the electrical outlet and allowing 45 minutes before use.
